In $5 billion purchase, United Healthcare to add 300 clinics

With the CVS/Aetna takeover pending, United Healthcare, the biggest health insurer in the U.S., has announced its intention to buy DaVita Medical Group, the operator of nearly 300 primary and specialty care clinics. The locations will be added to United Healthcare’s Optum health care services business which presently includes about 1,100 primary, urgent care and surgery centers.
